after the 15thc. original by Antico (Italian c.1460-1528) The Spinario was created as a collector's piece to be stored on a high shelf, so that the viewer could look up into the boy's face (the original has silver gilt eyes) and also envisioned to be removed from the shelf and inspected closely at hand.
