Translation of label verso: “Johann Gottlob Venus, Tint (color) producer, and lawyer attendant at courts in Chemnitz, was born May 27, 1788 in Sonnenwatie, in Niederlausitz. In the year of 58 13/3 22 (1822). I received the first Freemason light of the 3 Mountains. In the year 58 34/6 39 (1839) with the help of the greatest builder in all worlds. So happy about my good (good deeds or freemasons work) I was enriched with the sum of 100 Talers. But it is my final will that the interest of this sum be given annually at Christmas to four poor schoolboys and four poor schoolgirls. May God protect this (good deeds or freemasons work) until the end of time. JGV.”
