As Glasco worked toward his own true style he was influenced by the artists around him. Boy shows the influence of artist Jean Dubuffet (1901-1985), who had reportedly given Glasco the ratio of ingredients for working with oil and sand. As Micahel Raeburn states in his monograph, "It also introduces a motif that reappears again and again...a circle divided by spokes..."
