"Allegra," Harriet Frishmuth said, "came along two years after 'Desha', which sold very well and Allegra was molded under the same circumstance of my not having a specific commission right at the moment. There had been a number of requests for a companion piece to 'Desha' (1927) and because Desha herself was so very active and vivacious and full of movement and because the sculpture 'Desha' exemplified this, we thought the companion piece should be of a quieter pose. Desha had done several very difficult poses and a quiet pose now would be less tiring."
