A native of Cleveland, Ohio, sculptor Fred Schmidt was in his late twenties and working as a welder for the New York Central Railroad when he molded together some random metal fragments into an abstract shape, and the urge to create was born. Schmidt's graceful, abstract metal sculptures have been exhibited throughout the Midwest, including the Cleveland Museum of Art and the Canton Museum of Art.
